DESCRIPTION:“Green investments”\, “sustainable funds”\, “100% ecological capital”\, “blue planet”… Such are the feel-good buzzwords used by asset managers to sell financial products that are supposed to promote sustainable development and contribute to the climate transition. But how sustainable are they really? \nLIVE | “Green investments”\, really? \nLaureates of several prestigious awards\, including the Climate Journalism Award and the Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards\, Stefano Valentino (Bertha Challenge 2024 fellow) and Giorgio Michalopoulos have conducted months of specialist reporting on green finance. \nTheir work\, done in partnership with European Collaborative Investigations\, sheds light on a murky world where Europe’s moneymen are taking ruthless advantage of linguistic ambiguity and legal loopholes to continue financing carbon-spewing corporations – thus contributing to the very climate crisis they claim to be fighting. \nStefano and Giorgio will tell us the story behind their investigation in a special Live event on Friday 6 December at 2:30 pm Paris/Brussels time. They will be joined by Nicola Stefan Koch\, from the NGO 2° Investment Initiative. The conversation will be moderated by Catherine André and Gian-Paolo Accardo. This event is in partnership with the Bertha Foundation\, European Investigative Collaborations and 2° Investment Initiative. \nUlla (Parents for Future Köln and RWE Tribunal) accompanied Stefano Valentino for some interviews in the Rhineland coalfield at the end of August. He came across the RWE Tribunal Initiative while researching RWE and greenwashing. \nDuring the presentation of the results of his research\, which mainly concerns the finances\, she will report on the RWE Tribunal and experiences with statements from those affected in the Rhenish mining area. \n
